All You Need to Know About Artificial Intelligence and Video Analytics

Artificial intelligence has been around for decades, since the 1950s. In 1997, IBM’s Deep Blue computer beat a world chess champion and in 2011, the same company’s Watson competed on Jeopardy! against the show’s two biggest all-time champions. IBM’s Watson won. For the past decade, artificial intelligence has become even more popular as devices such as Amazon’s Echo and Google’s Nest took over the markets. Artificial intelligence has also made great strides in video analytics and property security. ArcEye Property Defense is proud to integrate artificial intelligence and video analytics in its property security products and services. Let’s dive into the opportunities and possibilities thanks to artificial intelligence and video analytics.

All You Need to Know About Artificial Intelligence and Video Analytics

Video Analytics

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. If so, then videos hold a lot and a lot of insight. At ArcEye Property Defense, we believe it. In our line of work, we have a lot of video footage to sift through. Fortunately, we have video analytic technology to help us. What is video analytics anyway?

There are two primary types of video analytics: fixed algorithm analytics and artificial intelligence analytics. Both use sophisticated computer programming to analyze vast amounts of video footage.

Fixed Algorithm Vs. Artificial Intelligence

Algorithms are codes programmed into computers. Fixed algorithm analytics is restricted in that they perform specific tasks and look for certain behaviors. For example, fixed algorithm analytics can monitor passageways to count the number of visitors and even catch someone moving in the wrong direction. It can also detect when someone drops an object or even picks an item up. In short, if you can code it, then fixed algorithm analytics can monitor it.

Artificial Intelligence is a lot more complex. These also involve computer coding, but artificial intelligence is a life-long learner. Generally, these systems will be connected to the cameras for several weeks and get "on-the-job training." During this period, the artificial intelligence learns what is "normal" and will therefore be able to trigger alerts when something "abnormal" happens.

So, while fixed algorithm analytics is limited by the codes and scenarios that can be thought up by the programmers, artificial intelligence can catch things that even live security guards can miss.

How Artificial Intelligence Can Protect Your Property

Successful business owners know that property security is a major key to business continuity. While most business owners secure their property against outsiders and even employees, the security guards can often be a weak link. We don’t say this to be cynical. Your security guards are surely moral, but they are human at the end of the day. They can get distracted, miss a night of sleep, or simply become overwhelmed with the amount of video footage.

Artificial intelligence and video analytics can add an extra layer of protection. ArcEye Property Defense’s proprietary technology can detect unusual activity and notify the security guards. Let our technology take care of the attention to detail so your guards can handle the intervention. Call ArcEye Property Defense to learn more about our proactive video monitoring and virtual guards services.
